A suspicious package discovered at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, north-east Scotland, prompted evacuations of nearby homes on Thursday afternoon. The package was found during a routine security search at the base, leading to the deployment of a bomb disposal team and the establishment of a cordon around Muirton Road.
An RAF spokesperson later confirmed that the package contained nothing of concern and was removed from the scene. The cordon has been lifted, roads reopened, and evacuated residents allowed to return. Flying operations at the base were unaffected throughout the incident.
The spokesperson thanked local authorities for their assistance and the community for their patience. They also clarified that the incident was not part of the ongoing Exercise Agile Warrior, a major homeland defence training activity taking place at the base this week.
