RAF Typhoons Scrambled After Russian Drone Threat Near Nato Border
RAF Jets Scrambled Over Russian Drone Threat Near Nato

Two RAF Eurofighter Typhoons were scrambled from Borcea Air Base in Romania early on Saturday morning in response to the threat of Russian drones near the Nato border. The action followed the discovery of Russian drone fragments in the southeastern Romanian city of Galati, after an overnight attack on neighbouring Ukraine.

Property Damage in Romania

The drone debris caused damage to an electricity pole and a household annex, marking the first instance of property damage in Romania from such incidents. Romanian emergency services evacuated the area where the fragments were found due to fears of explosives, with the defence ministry condemning Russia's "irresponsible actions".

RAF Response

Although the RAF jets were scrambled, they did not enter Ukrainian airspace or engage any Russian assets before returning to base. The incident underscores heightened tensions along Nato's eastern flank amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
