Poland closes two airports as Russia strikes Ukraine

Poland has suspended flights at two airports in the east of the country and activated its air defence system as Russia carries out further strikes on Ukraine.

The airports in Lublin and Rzeszów temporarily halted operations this afternoon “due to military activity”, according to a statement from the Polish armed forces.

Air Defence Activated

The statement said: “Attention. In connection with further strikes by the Russian Federation on targets in the western part of Ukraine, carried out using airborne assault assets, the necessary forces and resources of the air defense system have been activated through the Air Operations Center – Air Component Command.”

The actions are described as preventive and are aimed at securing and protecting Polish airspace, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened zones.

Military Monitoring

The Operational Command of the Armed Forces is monitoring the current situation, and subordinate forces and resources remain ready to respond, the statement added.
