In a significant escalation of military support, Denmark has pledged its entire fleet of advanced drones to Ukraine alongside a comprehensive new aid package, as President Volodymyr Zelensky continues his European diplomatic offensive.
The announcement came during Zelensky's surprise visit to Copenhagen, where Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen revealed a substantial military support package that includes the country's complete drone arsenal, ammunition, and funding for additional F-16 fighter jets.
Comprehensive Military Support Package
The Danish commitment represents one of the most substantial contributions to Ukraine's defence capabilities in recent months. "We are donating our entire drone fleet to Ukraine," declared Prime Minister Frederiksen, emphasising the urgency of supporting Ukraine's defensive efforts against Russian aggression.
The package includes:
- Denmark's complete operational drone fleet
- Significant ammunition supplies
- Financial support for F-16 fighter aircraft procurement
- Additional funding through the Ukraine Fund
European Solidarity Strengthens
Zelensky's Copenhagen visit forms part of a broader European tour aimed at bolstering international support ahead of crucial summer battles. The Ukrainian leader expressed profound gratitude for Denmark's "truly substantial contribution" to Ukraine's defence capabilities.
This announcement follows Denmark's previous commitment to supply 19 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the first six aircraft scheduled for delivery this summer. The Scandinavian nation has positioned itself as a leading contributor to Ukraine's military efforts, committing approximately €8.5 billion in total support.
Strategic Timing for Defence Reinforcement
The drone donation arrives at a critical juncture in the conflict, as Ukrainian forces face intensified Russian offensive operations in the Kharkiv region. Modern drone technology has become increasingly vital for surveillance, targeting, and defensive operations along the extensive frontline.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen highlighted the strategic importance of the contribution, noting that enhanced drone capabilities would significantly strengthen Ukraine's defensive posture during this challenging phase of the conflict.
As Zelensky continues his European diplomatic efforts, this substantial Danish commitment signals enduring Western support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, despite growing concerns about ammunition shortages and delayed military aid from other international partners.
