A 4.9 magnitude earthquake has rattled parts of north Queensland, marking the second such event in the region this year. The tremor occurred at approximately 1pm AEST on Sunday, about 100km south of Charters Towers, according to Geoscience Australia.
The quake, which struck at a depth of around 10km, caused no reported damage. However, residents reported windows rattling as far as 200km away in Townsville.
This event follows a similar 4.9 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Bowen in April. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, with no immediate concerns for further seismic activity.
