The Football Association is under mounting pressure to relocate the forthcoming FA Youth Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United, as a dispute over the venue intensifies.
Venue Controversy
Manchester City have confirmed that the all-Manchester clash will take place at their 6,447-capacity Joie Stadium, citing ongoing construction work at the Etihad Stadium as the primary reason. In response, Manchester United offered to host the fixture at Old Trafford, arguing that a larger venue would accommodate more supporters and provide a more memorable experience for the young players involved.
Fan Backlash
The decision has provoked strong condemnation from Manchester United supporters. The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) and the Fans’ Forum have labelled the choice as “a disgrace”, pointing out that a previous FA Youth Cup final held at Old Trafford attracted a crowd of 67,000. They contend that the small venue not only lets down the fans but also denies the teenage footballers a significant milestone in their careers.
The supporters’ groups are now urging the FA to step in and mandate a change of venue, insisting that the final should be played at a ground befitting the occasion. The FA has yet to comment on the matter, but the pressure continues to build as the date of the final approaches.
