Lottery Winner Adrian Bayford Creates Learning Hub After Fiancée

Euromillions jackpot winner Adrian Bayford is putting his millions to good use after receiving approval to transform part of his estate into a learning hub for schools and charities. The environmentally conscious former postman, who won £148 million with his ex-wife Gillian in 2012, has embraced a more sustainable lifestyle since meeting his fiancée Tracey Biles.

A New Chapter for Bayford

The 54-year-old is building his own forest at his home and has secured planning permission to convert derelict farmyard buildings into studios where children and adults can immerse themselves in nature. Bayford hopes the Ragnalls Courtyard development, located within the grounds of Horseheath Lodge, will become a vital educational destination for all learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as home-schooled students.

This project comes a year after he withdrew plans for a large children's education and nature park on his 189-acre estate near Linton, on the border with Suffolk and Essex, following objections from the council. That earlier proposal included a miniature train ride, pond dipping, a maze, a play barn, education centre, café, five outdoor play zones, and a 90-space car park. However, planning officers deemed it did not integrate well with the surrounding countryside.

Scaled-Down but Impactful

The new project, approved by Greater Cambridge Shared Planning, focuses on redeveloping the stableyard. It will feature several small studios, a large events room, an exhibition and meeting room, and refurbished stables for animals. The site will not be open to the general public; rooms must be pre-booked by schools and organisations. Seven car parking spaces and five minibus spaces will be provided.

A design statement by Fabric First Architects explains: "Ragnalls Courtyard represents a unique opportunity to breathe new life into a historic farmyard by carefully restoring and conserving its character for the benefit of the local community. The project is centred on the sensitive repair and adaptive reuse of the now derelict agricultural buildings that once formed the vibrant heart of Horseheath Lodge’s farming operations. Rather than replacing these structures, the ambition is to preserve their heritage while reimagining their purpose for modern needs. The primary goal is to create a welcoming destination where people of all ages can learn, interact, and enjoy shared experiences within a setting that celebrates its history."

Living Sustainably

Bayford and his fiancée Tracey Biles, an ambulance worker whom he proposed to last Christmas, are committed to sustainable living. They grow their own food in a kitchen garden, using raised beds and polytunnels. They have also created a large carp pond and acquired baby goats and pigs. Additionally, Bayford has received approval to install solar panels on one of his barns, which will generate more than enough energy to power his estate.

Before meeting Tracey, Bayford had a turbulent romantic history. After divorcing Gillian in 2013, he was linked to several women, including stable girl Sam Burbidge, whom he was set to marry before they split in 2017. Sam left him and took 30 prize horses that Adrian had bought. He also attempted to woo ex-sausage factory worker Marta Jarosz, but the relationship did not last.

Now, with a new outlook on life inspired by his fiancée, Bayford is channeling his wealth into projects that benefit the community and the environment.
