Adrian and Gillian Bayford, the couple from Haverhill, Suffolk, who won £148m on the Euromillions lottery, have said the windfall is life-changing 'not just for us, for everyone'. The prize, the UK's second largest lottery win, came from Friday's draw after 14 rollovers.
Mrs Bayford, a healthcare assistant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, plans to quit her job, while Mr Bayford, co-owner of Suffolk Music Centre, intends to return to his business roots. The couple, married for eight years, have two children, Aimee, six, and Cameron, four.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mrs Bayford said they would share the money with friends and family who have supported them. 'It is such a large amount that it isn't something for one person,' she added. 'It is something to share with other people, people that need help.'
The couple spent the night after the win online, deciding how to spend the jackpot. They plan to buy a dream home, with Mrs Bayford eyeing an Audi Q7, while Mr Bayford wants to visit the Canadian Rockies by train. The children are keen to go to Disney World.
Mrs Bayford, originally from Kirkcaldy, Fife, said children's charities are close to their hearts, and they will explore how to use the money to help them. Despite the fortune, she joked, 'I'm Scottish, we're known for being tight, I'll still be hitting the sales.'
