Family Cheers Dad in Sunbed War as Tourists Push and Shout

A family cheered on their father as he braved the morning rush to secure sunbeds, with tourists reportedly pushing, swearing, and shouting to claim pool spots. Nicole Mason-Price, 35, watched from her balcony at the Golden Donaire Beach Hotel in La Pineda, Tarragona, Spain, alongside her four-year-old daughter Nevada, as her husband Shawn, 34, joined an eager queue at 8am.

Morning Queue Chaos

Despite the pool not opening until 9am, tourists began lining up as early as 7:45am to grab a spot. Nicole described the scene: "People push, swear and shout and claim more sunbeds than they should, which causes arguments." The family, from the West Midlands, usually avoided the conflict by heading to the beach, but on Saturday, May 16, their daughter wanted to use the pool, prompting Shawn to brave the rush.

Family Cheering from Balcony

Nicole and Nevada cheered Shawn on from the balcony, and a neighbouring guest joined in. "My husband was super embarrassed as we were all cheering," Nicole told Jam Press. The hotel has rules prohibiting leaving sunbeds with towels for more than 15 minutes, but Nicole said these are ignored: "People leave them for hours whilst they're having breakfast, and others throw their towels into the pool if they haven't returned."

Previous Sunbed Disputes

This incident follows a case where a German father, David Eggert, 48, sued his holiday tour operator after his children were left lying on concrete by the pool at a luxury Greek island resort, where all 400 sunbeds had been reserved with towels. Eggert paid over £6,200 for a family holiday to Kos in 2024 and won £770 in legal action against the travel company.
