The Off Campus star Josh Heuston will not reprise his role as Justin Kohl in the upcoming second season of the Prime Video series, showrunner Louisa Levy has confirmed. In an interview with TV Guide, Levy stated that Heuston's character will not appear in the next installment, though she expressed a desire to bring him back in future seasons if possible.
Levy explained that the decision aligns with the source material, Elle Kennedy's book series of the same name. She noted that the show has not yet introduced Stella, the character Justin ends up with in the books, leaving the door open for a potential return. Heuston himself addressed the speculation in a recent interview with Variety, saying, 'At this stage, no,' while acknowledging that scheduling and storylines could affect future appearances.
The first season of Off Campus, which premiered on Prime Video, centred on a love triangle involving Hannah Wells (Ella Bright), Justin Kohl (Heuston) and Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli). The show has drawn comparisons to hockey romance series Heated Rivalry. Levy revealed that season two will shift focus to characters Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla) and Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn), adapting the third novel rather than the second, in order to maintain narrative momentum.
Levy told TV Guide that altering the source material was necessary for television storytelling, as 'happily ever afters are wonderful ... but they're not that helpful for television because we have to keep telling stories.' She confirmed that the new season will be filmed in Canada starting in June, with episodes expected to drop in 2027. Amazon renewed the series before the first season even premiered.
