Ed Sheeran, the globally renowned singer-songwriter, has announced plans to fund a new youth centre in the Suffolk town of Framlingham, where he grew up. The initiative aims to fill the void left by an existing youth club that is expected to close next month after two decades of operation.
Details of the New Facility
The new centre, tentatively named Fram Fam, will be financed through Sheeran's charity, the Framlingham Foundation Trust. It will be managed by a separate charity, also called Fram Fam, which will be funded by the singer. The charity will be run by local individuals who have long been involved in community work and who attended school with Sheeran, according to a source close to the project.
A planning application submitted to East Suffolk Council outlines that the proposed facility will "replace and significantly enhance" the current youth club. The new building is described as a "multi-functional facility for children aged 0-18 years, for a variety of recreational activities." The application warns that without this centre, there would be no long-term child and youth provision in Framlingham.
Features and Amenities
The youth centre will offer a multi-purpose space including an art studio, rehearsal rooms, a library, a cookery room, and a garden. Additionally, plans include a separate gym on the site that will be open to the general public. A source noted that the centre will place a strong emphasis on the arts, reflecting Sheeran's own passion.
The planning application, lodged for land owned by Framlingham Sports Club, is currently awaiting a decision. A design and access statement accompanying the application states that the proposals "have huge community benefits, particularly in addressing the local need for youth facilities" and that "full funding is in place for the proposed works." Subject to approval, construction could begin in spring or summer 2026.
