Surrey Residents Can Apply for £300 Supermarket Vouchers Through Local Support Scheme
Hundreds of households in Surrey could receive free supermarket vouchers worth £300 as part of ongoing cost of living support initiatives. The assistance is being distributed by Surrey County Council under the national Household Support Fund, a government allocated pot of money designed to help local authorities provide aid to vulnerable families facing financial pressures.
Eligibility Criteria for the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher Scheme
Residents of Surrey County Council can apply through the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher scheme if they are experiencing difficulties affording food and other essential items. To qualify, applicants must meet specific requirements:
- Be aged 18 or over and reside within Surrey
- Have average household savings of £2,000 or less over a 90-day period
- Possess an annual household income under £27,007.50 before taxes and deductions
Successful applicants will receive vouchers redeemable at major supermarkets including Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, The Food Warehouse, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose. Applicants will need to provide details of their income and any benefits received by their household as part of the verification process.
Monthly Application Windows and Alternative Council Support
Applications for the vouchers open on a monthly basis, with the current round available from February 3. If residents miss this month's window, they can apply again from March 2. For those struggling financially who do not live in Surrey, it is recommended to contact their local council to inquire about available support schemes.
Several other local authorities across the UK are operating similar assistance programmes:
- Nottingham City Council is providing £100 vouchers to individuals on low incomes or benefits, with distribution ongoing until February 28, 2026. The council is allocating 10,000 vouchers randomly rather than on a first-come, first-served basis, and previous recipients from April 2025 can reapply.
- Wakefield Council is issuing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax support. Pensioners eligible for Council Tax Support should have received £70 vouchers in November, with further distributions planned. Families receiving Council Tax Support will get £50 vouchers from December 15, while other eligible households will receive £70 vouchers between December 3 and December 12.
- Blackpool Council is distributing energy assistance payments of £200 to eligible households of one or two people (including children) and £300 to qualifying households of three or more people. Claimants must demonstrate financial hardship and provide recent bank statements for all household members as evidence.
The Household Support Fund represents a crucial lifeline for many families during the ongoing cost of living crisis, with local councils tailoring their distribution methods to best serve their communities' needs.
