Teacher's 10 Stone Weight Loss: From Abuse to Confidence

From Street Harassment to Self-Acceptance: A Teacher's Remarkable Transformation

A teacher who endured cruel insults shouted at her in public has discovered newfound confidence and self-love after shedding an incredible 10 stone. Becka Gill, 34, from Congleton in Cheshire, once avoided mirrors and cancelled social plans due to profound shame about her appearance. Today, she describes herself as "transformed" both physically and mentally.

The Painful Reality of Life Before Weight Loss

Becka's journey began at 19 stone 3 pounds, wearing a size 24. She recalls being in an extremely low place emotionally, often sobbing in the shower because she could not bear to touch her own body. "I cancelled any social life because I never felt comfortable in anything I wore," she explained. "I felt self-conscious everywhere and had a fear of eating in public, worrying what people would think of a big girl eating food."

The emotional toll extended to her personal life, preventing her from dating due to intense self-dislike. Public humiliation was a regular occurrence. "I've been called fat in public by men and shamed for the way I looked," Becka revealed. One particularly painful incident occurred on a night out when a man told her she was fat and instructed his friend to stay away from her. "I didn't respond but it cut deep," she admitted.

The Controversial Path to Change

In July 2022, Becka invested £3,000 in a gastric sleeve procedure in Turkey, which helped her lose six stone initially. However, she regained a stone afterward, leaving her frustrated and concerned she might never achieve comfort in her own body. Determined not to give up, she began using the medication Mounjaro in January 2025 while implementing sustainable lifestyle modifications.

Her choices have attracted both support and criticism. "My family and friends have always been incredibly supportive," Becka noted. "Obviously, both options I've taken are controversial to some. I've had a lot of comments online - mostly supportive but there's always trolls. People are quick to tell me I've taken the easy way out."

She counters this criticism by emphasizing the difficulty of her journey. "Unless you've actually been through this, you don't realise how difficult it actually is and how much work you have to put in if you're doing it properly," she asserted.

A New Chapter of Confidence and Joy

Now weighing a comfortable 9 stone 1 pound and wearing a size eight, Becka focuses on toning and exercise to achieve her desired appearance. Yet she maintains the most significant change has been internal. "I'm finally at a point where I feel truly comfortable in my own skin," she shared. "For the first time, I smile at the person looking back at me in the mirror."

Simple pleasures that once caused anxiety now bring joy. "I still don't really believe I can order clothes and have them fit perfectly when they arrive," she said, marveling at no longer needing to second-guess sizes or return items. "It feels surreal. But more than that, it feels right. I finally feel like the real me, the version I've always wanted to be."

The transformation extends beyond appearance. "It's changed how I feel. I'm happier. I'm living life the way I've always imagined," Becka explained. "I find joy in the smallest things now. I laugh more and romanticise everyday moments. I even enjoy going to the gym."

Rebuilding confidence to return to the gym took time, but now she genuinely anticipates workouts. "Exercise isn't something I dread anymore," she concluded. "It's something that makes me feel strong, capable, and proud. For the first time in a long time, I feel like me."
