A man has denied attempting to murder his wife after she was left fighting for her life following an incident in Tuebrook. Louden Chagona appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday via video link from HMP Liverpool, where he pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder.
Incident on Snaefell Avenue
Merseyside Police were called to a house on Snaefell Avenue earlier this year after a woman in her 30s suffered serious head injuries. The victim, named in court as Abigail Chinorwadza, is understood to be Chagona's partner. Emergency services attended the scene shortly before 7.30am on Sunday, May 17, following reports of a woman being hit on the head. Paramedics found she had sustained serious head injuries and she was taken to hospital, where her condition was described as critical but stable. The court previously heard she was later discharged as an inpatient.
Court appearance and trial date
Chagona, 50, of Snaefell Avenue, Tuebrook, appeared via video link wearing a green Montirex t-shirt, assisted by an interpreter. He spoke only to confirm his name before entering his not guilty plea. A trial lasting four to five days has been scheduled to begin on November 9 this year. Chagona was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on September 3. Adjourning the case, Judge Stuart Driver KC said: "Mr Chagona, you must come to this court on the 3rd of September and again for the trial on the 9th of November. You are remanded in custody."
