Josie Gibson reveals '1970s diet' secrets behind five-stone weight loss

Josie Gibson has shared details of her dramatic five-stone weight loss, attributing it to a '1970s diet' she followed for a new Channel 5 show. The This Morning presenter, 40, immersed herself in the food, drink and health culture of the era for the programme, titled The 1970s Diet: Could It Work for You?

The show, which airs this Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm, explores how 1970s food trends could help tackle modern obesity. Gibson followed a meal plan featuring smaller portions and foods such as boiled potatoes, liver and spam. 'Taking on a full 1970s diet was no easy feat - this was a totally unique experience!' she said.

Gibson has been open about her weight fluctuations over the years. She went from a size 20 to a size eight in 2014 after losing six stone through healthy eating and exercise. After welcoming her son Reggie in 2018, she gained around four and a half stone but gradually shed the weight, reaching a size 14 by 2022.

Last year, she revealed she had lost five stone without resorting to gastric bypass or weight loss jabs. 'I didn't get a gastric bypass; I got off my big a**e, moved more, ate less and educated myself on what I was stuffing into my body,' she told fans. She also had a tummy tuck in 2016 to remove loose skin after her earlier weight loss.

Gibson's journey has not been without setbacks. She was warned she was at risk of type 2 diabetes and 'fell off the wagon' before overhauling her diet and fitness routine. She now exercises daily, including running 3k and weights, and said she wanted to 'treat myself to a new body for 40'.
