I Used Noli's AI Face Scanner to Find the Perfect SPF – Here's How It Went
I Used Noli's AI Face Scanner to Find the Perfect SPF

Finding the right SPF for different skin types is no simple task. What works for one person may cause issues for another. While I have typically used any available sunscreen, especially on holiday, I recently decided to refine my sun care choices for my face. This is because I noticed increased shine and more breakouts when I neglected this skincare essential. Unsure where to start, I tried beauty retail platform Noli and its relatively new AI feature to find the perfect SPF product for my combination skin.

What Is Noli?

For those unfamiliar with Noli (an acronym for 'No One Like I'), the retailer launched in 2024 with the aim of simplifying the overwhelming 'beauty jungle'. It helps users filter through generic advice and discover a skincare routine tailored to their individual needs. The new AI tool scans the skin to determine exactly what is required for their skin type and concerns.

How the AI Tool Works

Logging onto the website, the AI feature is easy to locate—look for the purple NoliAI button. Users can input a query, such as: 'Help me find an SPF to best suit my skin'. They then answer questions about their skin concerns, or use the brand's face-scanning tool, which takes a photograph to analyse the skin and suggest the best products. I opted for the latter. Once analysed, the website suggests a range of products from different brands. Importantly, Noli does not keep the photo and removes it rapidly after analysis.

For those who prefer specific brands, La Roche-Posay offers a similar AI tool developed with dermatologists that analyses skin and recommends a personalised skincare routine using its own products. Elemis also provides a face scanning platform that matches the best formulas for skin types, analysing wrinkles, firmness, expression lines, dark spots, oiliness, visible pores, radiance, redness, and texture.

My Results

After identifying my combination skin and top concerns—blemishes, fine lines, and puffiness around the eyes—Noli suggested three SPF products ideal for my complexion. It selected formulas that are lightweight enough for oily zones but provide hydration for drier areas. The recommendations included:

  • Vichy Capital Soleil UV-Clear Anti-Imperfections Water Fluid SPF50+ (£22.50)
  • SkinCeuticals Oil Shield (£50)
  • Garnier BHA + Niacinamide Daily UV Fluid SP50+ (£13.99)

The tool presented pros and cons for each and offered an opinion on which to choose. For the Vichy option, Noli explained: 'Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide give a mattifying effect that leaves skin protected, hydrated, and with a more even tone. The invisible finish has no white cast, making it a great addition to oily skincare routines.' While this sounds excellent, as a bargain hunter, I will likely opt for the Garnier formula. It offers high SPF, with BHA (salicylic acid) to help reduce blemishes and excess sebum, and Niacinamide to soothe and soften skin.

Customer Reviews

Noli has received praise from shoppers for its very competitive pricing and hassle-free shopping. It currently holds a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot. One review states: 'I found the ability to adjust budget and swap out products really useful. I had 4 recommended and bought all of them. Great value for money and gets rid of a lot of the noise surrounding skin care.' Another customer added: 'I loved the AI Skin scanner and it recommended products I had never thought of using on my skin.' A third reviewer commented: 'The products are wonderful and the AI feature, surprisingly, did help recognise my issues, considering I have sensitive skin! I am going to be re-ordering when I need a refill, prices were on point as well.'

However, some users noted minor issues. One found product sizing small for the price, while another had a delivery problem: 'The order came fairly quickly and was well packaged but one of the two items I ordered was missing. However, when I emailed them about this, they did refund me without question for the missing item.' Overall, Noli.com is a great option for those seeking a tailored skincare routine, with many reviews echoing: 'Always great recommendations for my skincare and very affordable prices with lots of choices for every budget.'
