A personal journey into aluminium-free deodorants has led to the discovery of three effective options, including a budget-friendly find from Nivea. The search began after reader demand prompted research into alternatives to antiperspirants, which use aluminium to block sweat ducts.
Despite initial scepticism about the wellness movement's claims, the writer decided to go aluminium-free in 2019. While acknowledging that no causal link has been proven between aluminium and breast cancer, and that regulators deem it safe, an instinctive aversion to blocking secretions and a personal family history of breast cancer influenced the decision.
Two previously identified premium options are Malin + Goetz's Eucalyptus deodorant (£12, 28g) and Aurelia's Botanical Cream deodorant (£18, 50g). Both are praised for their delicate scents, skin-friendliness, and effectiveness at neutralising odour without blocking sweat.
A third, more affordable option is Nivea's Fresh Clean 0% Aluminium (£3.29, 200ml), which sprays on like antiperspirant, smells great all day, and leaves no trace on clothing. This product is widely available in supermarkets, making it a practical choice for those seeking aluminium-free deodorants.
