Households are being urged to use a cheap kitchen staple to keep dishwashers sparkling clean. White vinegar, costing as little as 35p per use, is recommended by cleaning experts as an effective alternative to branded products.
Cleaning influencer Anna Louisa, who has millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, suggests placing a mug of white vinegar on the top rack during an empty dishwasher cycle. This helps remove grease, residue and old food without the need for expensive cleaners.
Anna also advises running a hot dishwasher cycle before going on holiday to ensure no trapped food remains. Leaving the door slightly open prevents stale smells from developing.
White vinegar is widely available, with a five-litre canister costing £6.99 from B&Q, making it a cost-effective solution for maintaining kitchen appliances.
