The father of a 14-year-old girl who died after allegedly undergoing a secret breast enlargement operation has demanded a full investigation, claiming the procedure was performed without his consent.
Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo died in a hospital in Durango, Mexico, on 20 September, a week after the surgery. Her death certificate lists the cause as cerebral edema due to a respiratory illness, but her father, Carlos Arellano, insists the breast enlargement was the real cause.
Carlos said he only discovered the truth at his daughter's funeral when he noticed breast implants and scars. He alleged a cover-up, stating: 'Her death certificate falsely stated 'illness' as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth.' He also expressed suspicion over how quickly the certificate was issued.
The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed it is investigating the case. Carlos urged: 'I demand that all those responsible be investigated.'
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old woman died hours after cosmetic surgery in Turkey. Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini suffered cardiac arrest after breast enhancement, liposuction and rhinoplasty at Tusa Hospital in Istanbul. Her husband, Elgar Miles, said she was convinced to proceed despite not being prepared, and that staff acted strangely before her death.
