The father of a 14-year-old girl who died after allegedly undergoing a secret breast enlargement operation has called for an investigation, claiming the procedure was performed without his consent.
Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo died in a hospital in Durango, Mexico, on 20 September, a week after the surgery. Her death certificate listed the cause as cerebral edema due to a respiratory illness, but her father, Carlos Arellano, insists the breast enlargement was the real cause.
Mr Arellano said he only discovered the truth at his daughter's funeral when he noticed she had breast implants and scars. He alleged a cover-up, stating: 'Her death certificate falsely stated 'illness' as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth.' The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed it is investigating.
