Sophie Habboo has revealed that she was prepared to undergo an emergency C-section without being fully numbed, as she recalled the experience alongside her husband Jamie Laing. The former Made In Chelsea stars, who gained a large following through their Nearlyweds podcast, have now launched a new series titled NewlyParents.
Welcoming Baby Ziggy
Sophie, 31, and Jamie, 37, welcomed their first child, a son named Ziggy, in December and have since taken a break from podcasting. Returning with the first episode on Monday, the couple opened up about the 'intense and emotional birth' of their son.
Speaking on their new podcast, Sophie said: 'So we had to have an emergency C-section. That was intense.' Jamie added: 'It was very quick because it was like, this is what I would recommend. And then it was like within the space of a second, like we have to do it, scrubs are on and they wheeled you through.'
The Scariest Moment
Sophie shared: 'They were jabbing me with numbing cream and trying to numb me all over. That was the scariest part, when we were in the room on the bed, and the anaesthetist, Tara kept saying like, “is she numb?” And they were spraying me with this cold spray and I could feel it.'
'And then he [their OBGYN] was like, “we really have to go now”. But it was taking a long time for my body to get numb. So they'd spray, then she was like “five more minutes”. They'd spray me again. I was like, “I can still feel it”. And then he was like, “we've got to go”.'
'In my head, I was thinking like, I'm just going to say I don't feel it so they get the baby out because I don't care if I can feel it, I just wanted him out safe. And then they sprayed and I could still feel it on my boob, but my tummy, I couldn't feel it. And I said “I can feel it on my boob, but I can't on my tummy”. And she was like, “go”.'
Jamie described the moment as 'the most emotional thing I've ever experienced in my entire life.'
Humorous Podcast Return Announcement
Over the weekend, Sophie and Jamie amused fans by transforming into their older selves to announce the return of their podcast. They donned grey wigs, wrinkle prosthetics, and makeup to become elderly versions of themselves for a comedic advertisement.
The video shows an elderly Jamie holding an aged Sophie's hand as she lies in a hospital bed, surrounded by photos of their life together. Old Jamie tells his wife: 'I still can't believe we did that. What a ride we had. You know I've been thinking. There's one thing that I really regret. That we didn't bring the podcast back one more time.'
Suddenly, Sophie begins flat-lining, causing Jamie to panic and call for help. She then wakes up as her normal 31-year-old self, relieved to find it was a nightmare. However, she is shocked to see Jamie holding Ziggy and a full crew with cameras and sound equipment, as he declares: 'We're back baby!'
The video received a positive response from fans, including Dani Dyer and Tasha Ghouri, who commented with laughing emojis. Sophie's best friend Melissa Tattam wrote: 'Omg I’m laughing but also made me cry lol.' Some fans joked that Jamie resembled Dr. Seuss character The Lorax, Ellen Degeneres, or the late Bruce Forsyth.
