Nurse Claims 5-Minute Massage Can Make You Look 6lb Lighter Instantly
Nurse: 5-Minute Massage Sheds 6lb of Fluid Instantly

A registered nurse from Cardiff, Wales, has claimed that a simple five-minute massage can help people look up to 6lb lighter almost instantly by draining excess lymphatic fluid. Anya Clements, 25, an online coach and nurse, says thousands of people mistakenly attribute bloating to hormones, diet, or body fat when the real cause is often retained lymphatic fluid.

The Five-Minute Lymphatic Drainage Method

Clements explains that the lymphatic system lacks a pump like the heart, so it requires manual activation to move fluid effectively. Her technique involves massaging the abdomen, neck, legs, and face to 'flush' stagnant lymph. She recommends using a lymph node map to guide the fluid toward drainage points but cautions that professional guidance is safest.

"Everyone has a lymphatic system, but unlike your heart, it doesn't have a pump. If you don't activate it, the fluid just isn't moving as well as it should. That's why so many people look and feel puffy. It's not always body fat - sometimes it's just fluid," Clements told reporters.

Instant Results and Broader Benefits

Clements claims the results are immediate when performed correctly. "I've seen someone weigh six pounds less after a session just because of how much retained fluid they'd released," she said. Beyond slimming, she says the treatment supports circulation, clears waste products, and may alleviate brain fog. However, she stresses that it does not remove fat and requires frequent maintenance.

"If you've never tried it before, you'll probably notice the difference. It has to be maintained frequently and does not remove fat - but it's about helping your body work the way it's supposed to," she added.

Home Techniques and Natural Stimulation

While professional clinics offer specialized treatments, Clements says people can perform simple maintenance at home using hands or tools like Gua Sha. Exercise and deep breathing also naturally stimulate the lymphatic system.

Expert Caution on Lymphatic Drainage

The Boots Pharmacy Team notes that lymphatic drainage has surged in popularity on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. They explain that lymph is a watery fluid that delivers nutrients and removes harmful cells, viruses, and bacteria. When lymph nodes become blocked, fluid buildup causes lymphoedema, often in the arms and legs. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialist technique to reduce swelling in such cases.

However, for healthy individuals, the Boots team states: "There's no good evidence your lymphatic system needs 'help' — and no proof lymphatic drainage boosts general wellbeing or is necessary." Side effects can include headaches or nausea.

Dr Maureen Baker, former Chair of the Royal College of GPs, advised: "A healthy lymphatic system doesn't need extra help. You can support it by eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of fluids, maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly. If you're concerned about symptoms such as swelling, you should see your doctor, who can assess you and refer you for specialist treatment if necessary."

Clements maintains that her method is about helping the body function optimally, not replacing medical advice. She encourages anyone with persistent swelling to consult a healthcare professional.
