Two women in South Korea have died after undergoing vaginal filler procedures, a cosmetic trend that has been linked to severe health risks. According to reports, a 38-year-old woman lost consciousness shortly after the injection and died ten days later despite intensive care. An autopsy revealed a significant blood clot and widespread filler material blocking blood vessels in her vaginal area.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old woman suffered cardiac arrest minutes after receiving the filler while sedated. She remained in intensive care for a month before dying from brain damage and pneumonia. Autopsy results indicated that filler-related embolisms in her vaginal blood vessels were the primary cause of death.
The procedures are believed to have been performed to enhance sexual pleasure for male partners by filling out the vaginal walls. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr Deepak Dugar warned that the vagina is a highly vascular area, making it high risk for vascular compromise, necrosis, or embolism. He advised consumers to avoid new cosmetic trends and stick to time-tested, safe procedures.
South Korea, known as the 'plastic surgery capital of the world', has seen a rise in vaginal fillers alongside other trends like ear fillers, which aim to create a smaller face appearance. Medical professionals in the country have also cautioned against the procedure due to its severe risks.
