Guy Fieri's Leg Muscle 'Explodes' in Filming Accident, 8 Weeks in Wheelchair
Guy Fieri's leg muscle explodes in filming accident

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri faces a lengthy recovery after a serious accident on the set of his new television show left him with a devastating leg injury. The 57-year-old Food Network star has confirmed he will be using a wheelchair for the next two months following the incident.

The Staircase Fall and a 'Split' Injury

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Fieri recounted the moment his quad muscle tore in half earlier this month. The accident occurred while filming his upcoming series, Flavor Town Food Fight, when he slipped on a set of stairs.

"One foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold," Fieri explained, describing how his body was forced into an extreme position. "It extended me out. I looked like I was probably doing the splits."

The consequence was a unique and severe injury. Fieri revealed that his doctor, with two decades of experience, had never witnessed a tear in the thickest part of the quad muscle. Because the muscle did not recede after the rupture, the television personality was rushed into emergency surgery.

A Long Road to Recovery

The restaurateur now confronts an eight-week period completely off his feet. His treatment plan involves crutches, a cast, and a significant course of physiotherapy.

"You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the centre of the whole quad muscle, and it exploded," Fieri stated, detailing the unusual nature of the damage. Despite his eagerness to begin rehabilitation, he acknowledges the doctor's warning that he must be patient to fully heal.

Reflecting on a childhood filled with broken bones, Fieri wryly added that he is "done doing that" kind of risky activity.

Impact on Filming and Family Thanksgiving

The unexpected injury caused immediate disruption to the production of Flavor Town Food Fight, with 125 crew members waiting as Fieri underwent surgery. The team was forced to adapt quickly.

"We figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques," Fieri said. "But it's been a run."

The accident has also reshaped his personal life, most notably his family's Thanksgiving plans. Unable to stand and cook, the culinary duties have been passed to his sons. His younger son, 19-year-old Ryder, texted him from school to say that "it was going to be my time to shine."

Fieri, who first found fame by winning The Next Food Network Star in 2006, continues to host popular programmes like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy's Grocery Games.
