Video game giant Electronic Arts (EA) is reportedly in advanced discussions to be taken private in a deal valued at nearly $50 billion, according to reports confirmed by Variety. The potential transaction would mark one of the largest leveraged buyouts in history, based on EA's current market capitalisation of $48.38 billion.
The investor group reportedly includes private-equity firm Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners. Representatives for EA and Silver Lake declined to comment.
EA, known for franchises including The Sims, Battlefield, and Madden NFL, reported strong quarterly earnings for the period ending June 30, 2025, with non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of 79 cents on $1.3 billion in net bookings ($1.67 billion in revenue). The company highlighted better-than-expected contributions from EA Sports, Apex Legends, and its catalogue, including a record quarter for FC Mobile.
Chief Executive Andrew Wilson has prioritised the upcoming release of Battlefield 6 on October 10. EA's extensive portfolio also includes Skate, EA Sports FC, Need for Speed, Dragon Age, Titanfall, Plants vs. Zombies, and EA Sports F1.
