DJ Rushed to Hospital for Emergency Surgery

World-renowned DJ Martin Garrix has been forced to cancel his upcoming performance in Mexico after being unexpectedly hospitalised for emergency surgery. The 29-year-old music producer, whose real name is Martijn Gerard Garritsen, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the shocking news with his fans.

Heartbreaking Cancellation Announcement

In a heartfelt post from his hospital bed at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, Garrix appeared to be recovering well as he flashed a peace sign at the camera. However, the Scared to Be Lonely hitmaker admitted he was "truly heartbroken" to announce the cancellation of his scheduled performance at the Festival International Del Globo in Mexico this Saturday.

The Dutch musician explained that he had been struck down with appendicitis and required immediate surgical removal of his appendix. His medical team has strongly advised him to rest and recover properly to avoid any post-surgery complications.

Outpouring of Support from Music Industry

Garrix's hospital post quickly garnered an enormous response from both fans and fellow artists across the music industry. Calvin Harris commented: "Rest up take care mate ❤️❤️❤️" while Zedd added: "Hope you feel better brother." Other well-wishers included Steve Aoki, Tiësto, The Chainsmokers, Armin van Buuren, Don Diablo, Marshmello and Afrojack, creating a united front of support for the recovering artist.

In his emotional message to fans, Garrix wrote: "Dear Mexico, I'm truly heartbroken to share that due to an unexpected case of appendicitis and the surgery that followed, I'm unable to perform at the Festival International Del Globo this Saturday. My doctors and team have strongly advised me to rest and recover to avoid any post-surgery complications."

He emphasised that the decision wasn't made lightly, noting that he has "some of my favorite memories ever performing in this incredible country." The musician also reflected that the health scare served as "a good reminder for me that I'm human too" and that his body needs extra time to heal properly.

Understanding Appendicitis

Appendicitis occurs when the appendix - a small, finger-shaped pouch connected to the large intestine - becomes inflamed. The condition causes severe stomach pain that typically travels to the lower right-hand side and requires swift medical treatment. The NHS warns that if the appendix bursts, it can prove life-threatening.

The most common treatment is an appendectomy, the surgical procedure Garrix underwent to remove his appendix. Despite extensive research, scientists remain uncertain about the appendix's actual function in the human body, as it appears to serve no vital purpose.

This health setback comes just three months after Garrix's triumphant return to London for his first UK show in seven years at Gunnersbury Park in August. The DJ shot to international fame in 2013 when his debut single Animals reached number one on the UK's Official Singles Chart when he was just 17 years old.

Since then, he has become one of the electronic dance music scene's biggest names, headlining major festivals including Tomorrowland, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival and Creamfields. He has also achieved mainstream success through collaborations with artists like Dua Lipa, Khalid, Bono and The Edge.

Known for his perfectionism, Garrix previously revealed to The Daily Telegraph in 2019 that he often creates up to 50 versions of a track before he's satisfied, describing himself as a "detail freak" who over-thinks everything. He explained his process of continuously playing new songs and changing "the first thing that annoys me" until the track meets his exacting standards.

Fans worldwide are now wishing the superstar DJ a speedy recovery and looking forward to his promised return to the stage.
