Amy Dowden Gives Strictly Return Update After Surgery

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has provided a health update two weeks after undergoing a second mastectomy. The 34-year-old dancer, first diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, shared a post-operative selfie on Instagram wearing a compression bra and checked trousers.

Dowden told followers she is “proud” of her progress and is focusing on “the small wins”. She wrote: “Tomorrow marks two weeks since my surgery, and I’m feeling proud with how far I’ve come. Focusing on the little things, I’m seeing gradual improvements in my movement and being able to do more each day.”

The BBC star, who previously underwent chemotherapy, fertility preservation and treatment for sepsis, added that she is “starting to feel like me again”. She explained: “Since the weekend I've started to feel like me again, my energy and movement is back, it's not so tender and the bruising has gone down.”

Dowden also addressed wardrobe changes due to her recovery, saying she cannot wear low tops and must use compression bras. She noted: “In the grand scheme of things it's not a problem.” She concluded by expressing excitement for the Strictly Blackpool episode.

Earlier this month, Dowden revealed the surgery was “not to treat a new cancer diagnosis” but followed a consultation with her medical team. She returned to Strictly this year partnered with Thomas Skinner, but was eliminated in week two.
