Passenger Dies During Snorkeling Excursion in St. Maarten
A Royal Caribbean passenger has tragically died while snorkeling in the Caribbean last week, according to reports. The guest, whose identity has not been disclosed, was traveling aboard the cruise line's Star of the Seas ship, a 1,196ft-long vessel capable of hosting 7,514 guests and a crew of 2,350.
On Thursday, the passenger disembarked at the port of St. Maarten with their family to participate in a snorkeling excursion in the island's picturesque blue waters, as reported by The Peoples' Tribune. The Star of the Seas was the only cruise ship at the port at that time.
Medical Emergency During Snorkeling
Tragically, the guest suffered a medical emergency while snorkeling. They were immediately rushed back to Port St. Maarten for medical attention but were pronounced dead upon arrival on shore, according to the outlet. The nature of the medical emergency remains unclear, and it is unknown whether the snorkeling tour was purchased through the cruise line or an independent business.
Following the death, the passenger's family decided to have the body placed in the ship's morgue rather than arranging for a flight home from the island, per the report.
Royal Caribbean Yet to Comment
The Mirror has contacted Royal Caribbean for comment but has not yet received a response. The incident adds to a series of tragic events involving cruise passengers in the Caribbean, including a recent case where a 37-year-old British man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a car park on another Caribbean island.
