Uber Launches Audio Recording Feature for Passenger Safety
Uber Launches Audio Recording for Passenger Safety

Uber is rolling out a new in-app audio recording feature designed to give passengers extra peace of mind during their journeys. The feature allows riders to activate audio recording before or during a trip, with the audio encrypted and stored securely on their device.

How the Audio Recording Feature Works

Passengers can initiate recording at any point before or during their journey. The audio is encrypted and saved locally on the rider's smartphone. Recordings are only accessible to Uber if the passenger chooses to upload them as part of an official safety report. If not uploaded, the recordings are automatically deleted after two weeks.

Drivers will be notified when audio recording is active. They have the option to cancel the booking without any penalty if they are uncomfortable with the recording.

Verified Badge for Passengers

In addition to the audio recording feature, Uber is introducing a verified badge for passengers. This badge is awarded to riders who have had their personal details cross-checked or who have uploaded official identification. The badge will be visible to drivers, helping them feel more secure about who they are picking up.

Safety Enhancements at Uber

These new features are part of Uber's ongoing commitment to improving safety for both passengers and drivers. The company continues to explore innovative ways to ensure that every journey is as safe as possible.

Uber's move comes amid increasing scrutiny of ride-hailing safety practices worldwide. By giving passengers the ability to record audio and providing drivers with verified passenger information, Uber aims to build trust and reduce incidents.
