Natalie Noble, 40, who has been battling cystic fibrosis since she was two months old, married her partner of 23 years, Matthew, at Butterwick Hospice in Stockton after staff organized the event in just 24 hours. The wedding took place in the hospice chapel, with more than 20 relatives and friends attending, including Natalie's parents, brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and niece. Her dogs Teddy and Harley also participated, wearing matching bow ties.
Staff and Community Rally to Fulfill Wish
When asked by carers what she longed for most, Natalie expressed her desire to marry Matthew. Workers, relatives, and local businesses quickly came together to make it happen. The kitchen staff prepared a wedding cake and refreshments, while clinical staff coordinated outfits, music, the ceremony, and the registrar, with support from both Butterwick Hospice and Teesside Hospice.
Local businesses contributed generously: Elizabeth George Bridal in Middlesbrough provided the wedding gown and tiara; Review in Stockton supplied neckties; Fairfield Florist in Stockton provided the bridal bouquet, floral displays, a cherry blossom tree, and buttonholes; Gemma Connell handled wedding and event dressing; Eddy Maynard provided photography and videography; and Max Spielman offered photography printing.
Emotional Ceremony and Family Reflections
Natalie's father walked her from her room to the chapel as their chosen song, I Loved Her First by Heartland, played. Natalie remarked on her wedding morning: "If anything happens to me tonight, I'll be the happiest girl in the world." After the ceremony, she said: "Every part of it. It was just perfect. Seeing Matthew in the chapel after walking in with my dad was so special."
Natalie's family expressed their gratitude: "Natalie has been smiling ear to ear with her beautiful, infectious smile. We can't speak highly enough of everyone involved. They made it all about Natalie and Matthew and created something truly special in such a short time. Within 24 hours of Natalie making the request, they made our daughter's dream come true. The hospice team are amazing – we couldn't have planned this any better ourselves."
Hospice Team and Community Support Praised
Butterwick Hospice Clinical Manager Stacey Hadlet said: "It was an absolute privilege to be part of something so special. It was also so moving to see the kindness and generosity of the local community supporting such a wonderful event. Visitors and patients shared how lovely it was to watch everything come together, with so much happiness and love felt throughout the day."
