Mother Who Saved Dozens of War-Ravaged Children Receives Pride of Britain Award

Sally Becker, a mother who has dedicated three decades to rescuing children affected by war in Bosnia and Gaza, has been honoured with a Pride of Britain Lifetime Achievement award.

Speaking exclusively to The Independent, Becker recounted the moment that spurred her into action. 'I watched a news report on TV 32 years ago and I saw a woman trying to cross the road in Sarajevo. She had a little boy and she saw a TV crew, went over and said “why is no one helping us?” and I just thought I had to do something,' she said.

Since then, Becker has saved dozens of children from conflict zones, earning her the prestigious award for her humanitarian efforts.
