With temperatures in Scotland expected to reach 30°C in Dumfries and Galloway, Eilidh Farquhar tested Primark's budget-friendly SPF skincare range, where no product costs more than £5. The four-item collection, totaling £17.50, includes a mineral sunscreen, probiotic cream, matte stick, and lip balm.
Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 (£5)
The mineral sunscreen sits on the skin as a shield, reflecting UV rays. It requires effort to massage in and leaves a white cast initially, but dries quickly without stickiness. However, it only protects against UVA rays, not UVB, which cause burning.
Probiotic Cream SPF 50 (£5)
This 30ml cream contains Vitamin E and probiotics to soothe and protect the skin. It absorbs smoothly without residue and offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Farquhar preferred this product for its feel and benefits, though the small bottle may run out quickly.
Matte Stick SPF 50+ (£5)
Designed to control oil and shine, the 20g stick initially felt heavy but eventually left a balanced matte finish. Farquhar had mixed feelings but noted it targets problem areas without being overly blurring.
Lip Balm SPF 50 (£2.50)
The peppermint-scented balm protects and hydrates lips with UVA/UVB protection. It occasionally leaves white patches, easily wiped away. Primark advises applying 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapplying frequently.
Overall, Farquhar praised the range's affordability and variety, singling out the probiotic cream as a likely repeat purchase for daily use under makeup.
