A 59-year-old menopause coach from Hampshire who suffered severe bloating and trapped wind says a daily supplement costing 55p a day settled her stomach within two to three weeks.
Struggling with digestive symptoms
Claire Hattrick, who now works as The Executive Menopause Coach, spent years dealing with menopause symptoms including joint pain, severe sleep disruption and digestive problems that made everyday activities uncomfortable. She recalled feeling as though her belly button was going to explode and joked that she could 'fart from the top of the stairs to the bottom'.
The bloating, constipation and diarrhoea left her reaching for elasticated clothing instead of her usual jeans. "You can't do your jeans up because you're so bloated," she explained. "You're looking through your wardrobe thinking, well, I can't get into that. I've got to wear something elasticated, or gym stuff."
Finding a daily fix
Claire noticed a difference when she introduced DRV+'s Gut Works supplement into her daily routine. The supplement contains live bacterial cultures, fibre and a prebiotic. Gut Works usually costs 93p a day on a monthly subscription, but new customers can currently get more money off using the code DRVPLUS50. This brings the price of the one pouch subscription, which is every 30 days, from £32.99 (now £28.04) to £16.27, working out at 55p a day instead.
Other prices include a two pouch subscription every 60 days for £27.05, down from £65.98. There's also a three pouch subscription every 90 days for £26.39, down from £98.97, or a one time purchase for a 60 days' supply for £31.34.
Noticed a difference within weeks
The menopause coach claims her stomach began feeling more settled within two to three weeks, and she has continued taking it ever since. "I noticed it straight away, literally within two or three weeks," she said. "I thought, I can go out and not have to worry about a cup of tea with milk going straight through me."
She says she now feels more comfortable wearing her usual clothes and no longer experiences the same level of bloating. DRV+'s Gut Works is a vegan supplement formulated with six identified strains of live bacteria, alongside prebiotic inulin and psyllium husk. Each capsule contains 50 billion colony-forming units (CFU) at the time of manufacture, including strains such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG, Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12 and Lactobacillus plantarum PPLP-217.
Product details and alternatives
Gut Works is designed to be taken once daily, away from hot food or drinks, as the live cultures are sensitive to heat. The supplement is free from added sugar, gluten, wheat, soya, lactose and dairy, as well as artificial flavours, colours and preservatives. It has also received recognition from BBC Good Food, including a Star Buy award in 2025.
After the first three payments, the subscription returns to its standard price, with the usual 15% subscription saving applied (£28.04 down from £32.99). The offer is limited to new customers purchasing through the DRV+ website and cannot be combined with other promotions. Subscriptions can be skipped, changed or cancelled, and the brand also offers free delivery and a 60-day money-back guarantee, subject to its terms.
Gut Works is a food supplement, not a medicine or a replacement for medical treatment. Anyone experiencing persistent or worsening bloating, abdominal pain or changes in bowel habits should speak to a healthcare professional.
Alternatives include the Holland & Barrett Friendly Bacteria 50 Billion 30 Capsules for £29.99, containing 50 billion live friendly bacteria per capsule, and Boots' Jerms Daily Gut, Gut Microbiome and Metabolic Support powder for £32.99 for a one month supply.
Shopper reviews
Gut Works has been rated highly by shoppers, with one saying: "I find Gut Works works brilliantly for me, it keeps my bloating down. I take it to help my digestive problems, IBS and gastritis. I have the worst digestive system ever, but this is a life-saver for me. I notice how good it actually is if I don't take it. I would fully recommend this product if you suffer."
Another added: "Nothing short of a miracle! This has really changed my life. After 20 years of discomfort and numerous visits to specialists, these little supplements have worked their magic. It took four short weeks to make a difference."
Some disagreed slightly, as one said: "It has had a positive effect on bloating and general digestion. One capsule daily is so easy, but it's on the pricey side, so may not be sustainable." Another wrote: "I started to feel a difference after a couple of weeks of using this product. My gut feels a lot more settled and comfortable than usual and there's noticeably less bloating. It's easy and convenient to take and reassuring that it has good ingredients. I hope to continue using this product in order to further enjoy the benefits I've experienced so far."
