Kirkby woman 'beyond angry' after six-month civil service pension delay
Kirkby woman's fury over six-month pension delay

Lisa Blundell, from Kirkby, has been left 'beyond angry' after waiting six months for her civil service pension payments, forcing her to raid her savings to pay bills. She worked for the civil service for 24 years before retiring in March.

Retiree describes 'ongoing scandal'

Ms Blundell described the situation as an 'ongoing scandal'. She said: 'I have still not had one penny of my pension that I have accrued over 24 years.'

The Civil Service Pension Scheme has been unable to provide payments to many of its 1.7m members since Capita took over administration in December. Around 86,000 people across the country have been affected by the delays.

Criticism of Capita and government

Ms Blundell criticised both Capita and the government, saying it 'beggars belief' that the company is being allowed to 'bring absolute misery' to pensioners. She recently received a pension quote from Capita that was 'roughly half of what it should be'.

A Cabinet Office spokesperson admitted the service levels have been 'completely unacceptable' and said the government plans to bring the pension scheme back in-house. The Civil Service Pensioners Alliance said members are facing 'serious financial hardship' while waiting for money they are entitled to receive.

Capita apologises and outlines recovery

Capita apologised for the impact on members and said it now has the processes and technology in place to work through the backlog.
