Kate Garraway's Extreme Deficiency Left Her Unable to Get Up

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has shared a troubling experience when she "couldn't get up" due to an "extreme" Vitamin D deficiency. The ITV host disclosed on the breakfast show that she suffered the deficiency several years ago while working on Daybreak.

Kate Garraway's Health Struggle

Appearing alongside Ranvir Singh and Dr Amir Khan, Garraway recounted her symptoms: "I had an extreme Vitamin D deficiency a few years back when we were on Daybreak. I was entertainment editor and up in the mornings and I probably hadn't seen daylight in a long time. And I literally just stopped in my tracks and suddenly couldn't get up from my chair."

She noted that her mother had warned her against taking too much Vitamin D, leaving her uncertain about the correct dosage. Dr Amir Khan emphasised the importance of taking the proper amount, echoing NHS advice that Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosphate for healthy bones, teeth, and muscles.

NHS Guidance on Vitamin D

The government recommends everyone consider a daily Vitamin D supplement during autumn and winter. A lack of Vitamin D can cause rickets in children and bone pain in adults. Dr Amir reinforced this advice on the programme.

This is not the first time Garraway has been open about health issues. In April, she revealed she was in pain while presenting due to an eye infection. Wearing glasses, she joked, "I can't see a thing this morning, Ranvir." Ranvir replied, "You're in pain, though, aren't you?" Garraway explained she had an eye infection and couldn't wear contact lenses.

Impact of Health Issues

Ranvir offered support, saying, "We'll crack on, we'll get through it, won't we?" Garraway quipped, "Do you think I'll catch up by the end?" Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
