GB News Star Mike Parry Issues Stark Skin Cancer Warning After Treatment
GB News Star Mike Parry Warns Viewers After Skin Cancer Treatment

Mike Parry, a well-known broadcaster on Channel 5 and GB News, has returned to the Jeremy Vine show to provide an update on his skin cancer treatment and deliver a serious warning to viewers about the dangers of sun exposure.

Return to Jeremy Vine Show

Appearing as a guest panellist, Parry was welcomed by stand-in host Charlotte Hawkins, who is filling in for regular presenter Jeremy Vine. Hawkins asked Parry about his recent radiotherapy treatment at The Royal Marsden Hospital, which he had disclosed last month.

Parry said: "I feel very well, thank you. I can't thank The Royal Marsden Hospital enough for what they did for me last week. It was five consecutive days, a blast of radiation, once a day, a serious blast and then other procedures."

Grateful for Support and Treatment

Parry expressed gratitude for the care he received, noting that the hospital is located in his area, which he described as a gift. He also acknowledged the supportive messages he has received from viewers and colleagues.

"I feel good at the end of it, I feel mentally very well. I know I was in the hands of some of the best people in the world," he added.

Stark Warning About Sun Exposure

Despite his positive outlook, Parry issued a stark warning to viewers about the importance of sun protection. He recounted seeing people outdoors without hats or sunscreen on a hot day shortly after his treatment.

"Can I tell you, I have skin cancer. The doctors told me it was because of the sun. Even though I stay out of the sun as much as I can, I still got it," Parry said.

He urged viewers to take precautions: "So, can I say to everybody, please, please, take the greatest precaution against that big yellow ball in the sky, the sun. It will get you; you have a chance to stop it."

Importance of Sun Cream in the UK

Hawkins noted that while people often remember sunscreen on holiday abroad, they overlook it in the UK. Parry agreed, revealing that he had never used sun cream in his life because he had not been to the beach since childhood. However, doctors told him that sun rays affect everyone on the planet, even during daily activities like walking down the street.

"I've never put sun cream on in my life because I've never been on the beach since I was about five years of age. But, the doctors said to me, if you live on planet earth, sun rays will affect your skin, just by walking down the street, just by going about your everyday business," Parry explained.

Jeremy Vine airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9:15am.
