Sam Street, a father of four from Kent, has been given a devastating diagnosis of terminal brain cancer after suddenly collapsing at his new home and screaming for an ambulance. Doctors have told him it will be a miracle if he lives more than nine months.
Sudden collapse and diagnosis
Just days after moving into a new home in Newington, Kent, on July 4, Sam Street began shouting for an ambulance. He was rushed to Maidstone Hospital, where he later suffered a seizure. An MRI scan revealed that cancer had spread to his brain. On July 6, he was told he had up to nine months to live.
Debbie, Sam’s partner of 13 years, explained: “That is the average, it could be shorter than that. They said it would be a miracle if it was longer than that.” The cancer had progressed from stage two to stage four in the brain within six weeks.
History of melanoma
Sam’s battle with skin cancer began five years ago when a melanoma was removed from his back. About a year and a half ago, another melanoma was removed from his calf, and tests showed it had spread to his lymph nodes in the groin and chest. Two months ago, he underwent surgery to remove another melanoma from his chest.
Plans for marriage and final holiday
After receiving the diagnosis, Sam told Debbie he wanted to marry her as soon as possible. Debbie said: “Sam’s always wanted to get married but I’ve been one of the ones who said ‘we don’t need to get married’. But after he was told the news, he straight away said he wanted to get married.”
Sam also wants to take his family on one last holiday, likely to Cornwall, as he loves it there. Debbie added: “He really wants to go to Jamaica but we’re holding back because he may not survive the flight. That’s the reality and the scary part of it.”
Family and fundraising
The couple have four children: Freddie, 21; Tommy, 18; Gracie, 11; and Nancy, 10. Sam’s sister-in-law, Sally, has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses, household costs, and create special memories while Sam undergoes treatment.
Debbie said: “He’s obviously devastated. He doesn’t want to leave his children. He’s scared, he’s quite petrified, but there’s nothing else we can do. We just want to enjoy what we’ve got and carry on until the time comes when we have to say our goodbyes.”
