A 15-year-old schoolboy has been arrested after two teenage girls were stabbed while walking to school in south London. The suspect was taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday at a residential address in Croydon.
The first attack occurred on Wednesday, when a 15-year-old girl was approached by a stranger and stabbed in the leg. She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second incident took place on Friday, when another 15-year-old girl was stabbed in the arm. She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where her condition was also deemed not life-threatening.
Police believe the attacks are linked due to their similar nature. Detective Inspector David Adams of South Area Command said: 'These attacks are almost identical in nature and I am confident that they are linked.' He added that enhanced patrols are being conducted at the start and end of the school day.
The victims attend different schools and are not thought to be known to each other. The arrested teenager remains in custody at a south London police station. Police had earlier released CCTV footage of a suspect jogging away from the scene of Friday's attack.
