Asda and Morrisons recall pasta salads over listeria risk

Asda and Morrisons have both issued urgent recall alerts for certain pasta products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The supermarkets have warned customers not to eat the affected items.

Affected products

Asda's Cheese & Tomato Pasta Salad (300g, use by August 10, 2026) and Nacho Cheese Pasta Salad (500g, use by August 9, 2026) are recalled. Morrisons' Chicken and Bacon Pasta (300g, use by August 7, 2026) is also affected.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall notice, advising: "The possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to the flu and include a high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, feeling or being sick, and diarrhoea."

Health risks and advice

In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis. Those over 65, pregnant women, babies less than one month old, and people with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable.

The FSA added: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store, where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt." Customers can contact Asda Customer Relations at 0330 053 0111 or Morrisons Customer Services at 0345 611 6111 for further information.

Even though the use-by dates have passed, consumers are urged to check for the affected items and not consume them, including if frozen. According to the NHS, listeriosis is usually caused by eating food contaminated with listeria bacteria, often from chilled, ready-to-eat foods like pre-prepared sandwiches, salads, cooked sliced meats, pre-cut fruit, and smoked or cured fish.

To reduce risk, keep chilled ready-to-eat foods cold, eat them within four hours of removal from the fridge, and consume by the use-by date. Follow storage instructions, use opened food within two days unless stated otherwise, and keep raw and ready-to-eat foods separate.
