Amber heat health alerts for four areas with deaths warning

The UK Health Security Agency has upgraded heat health alerts to amber for East Midlands, East of England, London and South East. Yellow alerts remain for South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and The Humber.

Warning of rising deaths

The amber alert means "significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures including a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. There may also be impacts on younger age groups," the agency warned.

The Met Office has said Wednesday will be hot, particularly in the south. This is a breaking news story.
