Urgent UK Baby Lounger Recall: Amazon Removes Product Over Suffocation Fears
Urgent UK Recall: Amazon Baby Loungers Over Suffocation Risk

Parents across the UK are being urged to immediately stop using a range of infant baby loungers sold via Amazon, following a major recall issued by US safety regulators over deadly suffocation hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the voluntary recall of all models of the 'Baby Lounge Beds' and 'Baby Sofa Beds' manufactured by the Chinese company RONLI. The action was taken after the products were linked to two devastating infant fatalities in the United States.

What Are The Recalled Products?

The recall affects all versions of the padded, pillow-like infant loungers. They were sold in a variety of colours and patterns, including pink, blue, grey, and unicorn designs. The products were available for purchase on Amazon's online marketplace, making them easily accessible to UK consumers.

The Grave Safety Risk

The core danger identified by safety experts is the product's design. Infants can easily roll over, move, or be placed on their side or stomach while on the soft, padded surface. This can lead to a situation where their airway becomes obstructed, or they become trapped against the side of the lounger, resulting in a fatal risk of suffocation.

This tragic outcome is what reportedly occurred in the two infant deaths that prompted this urgent recall.

What Should UK Consumers Do?

If you own one of these products, you must:

  • Stop using the lounger immediately.
  • Take a photograph of the destroyed product.
  • Contact the seller for a full refund. Amazon is directly contacting all known purchasers to process refunds.

The CPSC has confirmed that nearly 3,000 of these products were sold in the US, but the number potentially sold to UK customers remains unclear. The absence of a recognised UK certification mark would indicate it did not undergo approved safety checks for the British market.

This incident serves as a critical reminder for all parents to vigilantly check product recalls and to ensure any nursery item meets stringent UK and EU safety standards before use.
