Medical Evacuation Plane from Virus-Stricken Ship Denied Landing in Morocco
Medical Plane from Virus Ship Denied Morocco Landing

A medical plane evacuating two people from the virus-ravaged cruise liner MV Hondius was forced to make an unscheduled stop today after being denied permission to land in Morocco.

Flight Rerouted to Spanish Air Base

The Learjet 45 had been scheduled to refuel in Marrakech after health personnel in hazmat suits removed the two individuals on stretchers from the ship off the Cape Verde coast. However, Moroccan air traffic control refused the landing request, prompting the emergency flight to reroute to Gando Air Base, a Spanish Air Force hub on the eastern coast of Gran Canaria.

The aircraft was expected to depart again for its final destination in Holland around 5:40 PM local time today. It remains unclear whether one of the patients is the seriously ill British doctor evacuated earlier in the day.
