Coronation Street's Beverley Callard Supported During Cancer Treatment Struggle
Beverley Callard Supported During Cancer Treatment Struggle

Beverley Callard, the Coronation Street legend, has been inundated with messages of support after she candidly admitted to struggling during her latest round of cancer treatment. The actress, who was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer earlier this year, is currently undergoing radiotherapy in Ireland, where she relocated with her husband Jon McEwan after joining the Irish soap Fair City.

Diagnosis and Initial Treatment

Following her diagnosis, Callard had lymph nodes removed as a precaution to prevent the cancer from spreading. She later shared that her consultant reported the surgery "went really well" and that they managed to "cut the cancer out." At the start of July, a relieved Callard began her radiotherapy treatment after being told during her wait that she should have started sooner. She has been keeping her followers updated on Instagram with videos documenting her journey.

Radiotherapy Progress

At the outset, Callard suggested she needed 10 rounds of treatment, telling fans: "1 down…9 to go! That was as easy and pain-free as it could have been. Straight in, 11 minutes with the big machine and I was free to go. Back again tomorrow… and if you’re about to go through something similar, it really wasn’t bad at all." She continued sharing videos after each session, but on Wednesday, July 15, as she faced what she hoped would be her penultimate round, she opened up about the toll it was taking.

Struggles with Treatment

Speaking from her home, Callard told her followers: "Number nine radiotherapy today. And, to be honest, I woke up this morning, and I did look like the walking dead. So I had to put some makeup on, and it took grit to go today. [I] just didn't want to do it at all. Not because it hurts or anything like that. I'm just fed up with it now. But listen, people are going through far worse than I am. But I do feel very nauseous, and very tired today, so I'm gonna take all this makeup off again now, and have a siesta."

Outpouring of Support

Captioning the post, she wrote: "And just like that, number 9 is done… but it was a struggle today. Crazy how one day you can be totally up for it… then the next, you just want to curl up and hide away!" Loose Women star Denise Welch was quick to offer support, commenting: "Still look like a supermodel." Fans also rushed to share messages of love and kindness. @dangerirvine said: "Sorry to hear there today was difficult Beverley but you look lovely tonight stay strong and positive." @janemiller1202 commented: "Ahhhh Bev it does knock you for six you’re doing great though." @dowlingmaree wrote: "Keep going Bev.
