Debs Dunham, 51, from Swindon, was shocked when doctors discovered a 20-cm cancerous tumour in her ovaries after her stomach swelled to look like she was pregnant. Following successful treatment, she gained weight, but a popular diet plan helped her shed over 4st 8lbs in nine months.
Shock discovery
In 2020, during a spin class, Debs noticed her knee hitting her stomach. Her husband then admitted she looked pregnant. Despite trying peppermint tea and anti-bloating remedies, her stomach continued to swell. She said: "I was convinced it was either the menopause or bloating."
After a GP appointment, urgent blood tests and an MRI revealed the tumour. Surgeons performed a fluid drainage and hysterectomy, which were successful. The ordeal also pushed her into early menopause.
Weight gain and turning point
After treatment, her eating habits worsened, leading to a peak weight of 15st 8lbs. Struggling to fit into size 16 jeans, she decided to try Jane Plan, a diet delivery service. She said: "I lost so much more than my figure; I lost my confidence, identity and the way I felt about myself as a woman."
Starting in September 2023, the plan provided portion-controlled meals. Within two weeks, she lost over 8lbs, and within a month, more than a stone. She praised the approach for helping her learn proper portion sizes and maintain weight loss.
Positive impact
Debs noted the plan helped her change her relationship with food and even improved her marriage. She said: "We've got that spark back in the bedroom that we both thought had been lost forever." She also fits into her mum's denim skirt again, which now needs taking in.
