A new extra care facility in Porth has been completed and handed over to Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council. Built on the former Dan-y-Mynydd care home site, the development will welcome its first residents in August.
Supporting Independent Living
The facility is designed to help older people live independently. Residents will have their own apartments, with staff available for scheduled care and urgent assistance.
It is the fourth extra care development in RCT, joining Ty Heulog in Talbot Green, Maesyffynnon in Aberaman, and Cwrt yr Orsaf in Graig.
Facilities and Handover
The development includes 60 self-contained apartments, a dining area, hair salon, activity room, council-managed day care centre, spa room, launderette, guest room, and office space. There is also a communal garden with visitor parking.
Project contractor Intelle Construction handed over the building to the council in the week commencing July 20. Radis Community Care will provide all on-site care and support when the facility opens to permanent residents in August.
Future Projects
The council states it remains committed to investing in modern residential care accommodation that meets community needs. Specialist accommodation in Gelli is nearing completion, work has started on a mixed development in Mountain Ash, and future projects are planned for Ferndale and Church Village.
