Ohio Man Wins $500,000 Lottery on Way Home from Wife's Cancer Treatment

An Ohio man has won $500,000 on a scratch-off ticket he bought on his way home from taking his wife to cancer treatment appointments. The man, from Carrollton, purchased the winning ticket at BellStores #146 in Malvern.

The unidentified winner told the Ohio Lottery that he bought several $5 scratch-off tickets, including the last remaining 'Best of 7s' ticket in the bin. 'I still can't believe it,' he said. 'I still think it's a dream.'

When he arrived home and realised he had won the top prize, he told his wife, who initially did not believe him. 'She looked at me funny and said, 'Did you fall?' I said, 'No, I'm in shock! I think I won half a million dollars!'' he recounted. She only believed him after he scanned the ticket with the Ohio Lottery app.

The man said the prize is a blessing that will help cover his wife's cancer-related medical bills. He also hopes to plan something special for them once she recovers. After taxes, he will take home approximately $360,000.

The win comes as the Powerball jackpot has reached $1.3 billion, the fifth-largest in its history, with the next draw on Wednesday.
