Former Love Island Australia contestant Lexy Thornberry has bravely disclosed that she is facing a battle with head and neck cancer at the age of 24.
An Emotional Social Media Announcement
The reality TV star, who first found fame on the 2021 series of the popular dating show, shared the devastating news with her followers via an emotional social media post. She accompanied her statement with pictures from the hospital, where she will soon begin a rigorous course of treatment.
Lexy confirmed she will undergo both chemotherapy and radiation treatment to fight the disease. In her heartfelt message, she directly addressed the shock of the diagnosis, writing, "I am 24 years old and I have been diagnosed with cancer. No, sadly I'm not joking."
She described the initial moments of her diagnosis, noting the drama of being put in a robe for an X-ray. "A couple days later I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer," she revealed.
A Shock Diagnosis and a Vow to Fight
Thornberry, who works as a Pilates instructor, emphasised that her healthy lifestyle could not have prevented the illness. "There's nothing I did wrong, nothing that could have prevented it. It's just the luck of the draw," she wrote. But she firmly declared her intention to fight, stating, "But it is something I will FIGHT."
The 24-year-old also made a direct appeal for privacy during this challenging time. "I am starting treatment and ask people to respect my privacy during this extremely difficult time," she shared. "This is all I'm willing to share at the moment and ask everybody to keep their questions to themselves."
An Outpouring of Support from Fans and Friends
The comment section of her post was quickly flooded with messages of love and encouragement from her supporters and fellow reality stars. One fan wrote, "You will beat this lovely Lexy!" while another added, "You're so strong & brave, love you guys so much sending the biggest cuddles your way."
A third supporter commented, "You have GOT this Lexy You're going to kick it's a**. Wishing you all of the strength in the world for this journey."
This difficult health update comes after a period of personal joy for Lexy. She recently became engaged to professional boxer David Nyika, who proposed during a romantic holiday in Mexico back in May of this year.
Lexy entered the Love Island Australia villa on day three of the 2021 series. She initially coupled up with Ryan Reid, but her journey on the show ended after he recoupled with Casa Amor arrival Tayla Mellington, leaving Lexy single.
