Kirsty Gallacher has revealed she requires targeted radiotherapy for a benign ear tumour, after refusing surgery due to its proximity to her brain. The 49-year-old presenter first noticed something was wrong during GB News rehearsals in 2021 when she could not hear through her earpiece.
After seeking medical advice, an MRI scan discovered an acoustic neuroma in her inner ear canal. Gallacher told The Sun: "I have to have targeted radiotherapy for it, so I'm having to think about that and when I will do it." She explained that doctors are monitoring the tumour as she does not want surgery because it is so close to the brain.
The mother of two, who has sons Oscar, 18, and Jude, 15, previously detailed her symptoms on Loose Women in 2022. She recalled waking up one morning unable to hear well in her right ear, initially thinking it would clear up. After two weeks, a doctor told her it was an emergency and referred her to a consultant.
Gallacher stepped down from her role on GB News in December 2021, posting on Instagram that the early 3am starts, compounded by sleep deprivation, were exacerbating her symptoms. She said the tumour causes severe tinnitus, making it difficult to sleep, and that she needed to focus on her health.
