Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Kirsty Gallacher has disclosed that her brain tumour is 'growing very fast' in a heartbreaking health update. The 48-year-old television presenter was diagnosed with a benign acoustic neuroma in the summer of 2021 and has since undergone radiotherapy treatment.
Speaking outside High Wycombe magistrates' court on Wednesday, where she received a six-month driving ban for speeding, Gallacher emotionally revealed: 'I have a brain tumour – an acoustic neuroma – it is benign, but it's growing very fast. They have monitored it for the last three years. I am now doing radiotherapy.' She added that it is unclear whether the treatment will be effective and that she may require surgery in the future.
Gallacher, who competed on Strictly in 2015 and has two sons with ex-husband Paul Samson, described herself as 'an ordinary mum with plates spinning' and acknowledged that her health situation is 'very difficult'. Earlier this year, she told Loose Women that her tumour is located in the inner-ear canal and is 'very dangerous' because it is near the brain, making it inoperable in some cases.
The star has been keeping followers updated on social media about her treatment journey. She admitted she is 'really nervous' but hopes the radiotherapy will 'zap' the tumour. Gallacher was previously married to rugby player Paul Samson and has two sons with him.
