Katie Price has opened up about being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer while pregnant with her eldest son, Harvey. The 47-year-old former glamour model shared her experience on Katherine Ryan's podcast What's My Age Again?, revealing that doctors attributed the cancer to the stress of her pregnancy.
Price was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a rare soft tissue sarcoma, just 11 weeks after learning that Harvey had Prader-Willi Syndrome and was blind. The cancer developed on her hand, initially noticed by a manicurist. Two doctors dismissed the lump as harmless, but she later had it removed and biopsied at Nuffield Hospital in Brighton.
LMS has a 50 per cent survival rate at an advanced stage. According to Sarcoma UK, there are around 525 cases annually in the UK, predominantly affecting women, with a median diagnosis age of 64. Treatment typically involves surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy.
Price recalled informing her mother casually: 'Mum, just to let you know, they found cancer.' She described Harvey as her 'inspiration' during the health scare. After the diagnosis, she underwent regular check-ups and later had three more children with ex-husband Peter Andre.
