In a raw and emotional social media post, singer Jessie J has opened up to her fans about the immense personal struggles she faced throughout 2025, describing it as 'one of the hardest' years of her life.
A Raw and Honest Confession
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old 'Price Tag' hitmaker shared a tearful end-of-year reflection with her 14.2 million Instagram followers. Posting a close-up picture of her crying eye, she admitted the year 'has been heavy and hard' and that she was 'feeling really low'. She encouraged her followers to embrace their emotions, stating that it's healthy and normal to cry, and that people should not feel pressured to be positive all the time.
Jessie wrote candidly about the mix of emotions many feel during the festive season, acknowledging the 'grief, hurt, pain, sadness, heartbreak, reflection and processing' that exists alongside joy. She explained that an accumulation of feelings had surfaced after she finally stopped working and being in public for the first time in months, leading to a period of intense emotion.
Grief and a Cancer Battle
The singer's difficult year was compounded by personal loss and a significant health scare. Earlier in December, she broke down in tears during a live performance at the Virgin Media and O2's Priority by Candlelight series while singing about the death of her beloved bodyguard, Dave. The event came just weeks before the seventh anniversary of his passing in 2018.
On Monday, she posted a heartfelt tribute to Dave on Instagram, calling him her 'big bro' and revealing she tells her two-year-old son, Sky, about their travels together. She expressed the pain of loss, writing, 'I hate how final death is'.
Furthermore, Jessie revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. While she considers herself 'super lucky' the cancer was caught early and was non-invasive, she acknowledged to ABC News that there is a chance it could return. She described the terrifying moment of diagnosis, recalling telling her mother, 'Well I can't die because I have Sky'.
A Message of Solidarity
Despite the profound challenges, Jessie also described 2025 as a 'magical' year professionally and personally. However, her end-of-year message focused on offering solidarity to others who might be struggling. She concluded her post without a forced positive spin, simply stating, 'Sending love to anyone feeling this way too right now. No positive end to this. Just I'm with ya. It's sh** sometimes.'
Her powerful message serves as a stark reminder of the hidden battles many face, even in the public eye, and champions the importance of emotional honesty and self-care.
